CHOOSING THE LOCATION
you want to choose a location that truly interests you and where you think your child will be comfortable.
outdoors: orange county weather provides for the optimal outdoor studio settings, e.g. your backyard, parks, beaches, etc.
indoors: for portraits of babies or young children, your home is often the best location. because i am a natural light photographer, the only requirement for an on-location indoor session is an abundance of ambient light (but not direct sun light). windows or glass doors that open directly to the outdoors, away from awnings or other shade, often provide the best light for in-home sessions.
WHAT TO WEAR
the most important thing to remember for your child’s photo session is that comfort is essential. casual is always great, but more importantly, let the children be themselves. for family photographs, it is best if clothes are complementary but not an exact match. colorful, simple and/or layered outfits make for great photographs. you also can never go wrong with simple and natural—bare feet, a white diaper, denim, sundresses, khakis or bathing suits. please avoid wearing heavy patterns, cartoon characters and logos. accessories (hats, necklaces, etc.) are always welcome and even encouraged. One thing to remember is that comfort is essential. casual is best, but more importantly, be yourselves. lastly, believe it or not, white and black are the two most challenging colors to photograph.
